The Star: An apology
In recent times, I may have given the impression that I'm not the biggest fan of the Daily Star and Daily Star on Sunday in the world. Well, perhaps that's not fair. Because today's paper attempts to set the record straight about some naughty tabloid rumours that have been doing the rounds:
AMY Childs has angrily slammed rumours that she’s the reason Peter Andre split from Elen Rivas.
Amy Childs made it clear she is not in a relationship with the singer, fuming: “We’re just good friends”.
She hit out after she and Peter were pictured supposedly cosying up together after he admitted his four-month relationship with Spanish babe Elen was over.
Well, that's made it clear. Amy Childs has not been in a relationship with Peter Andre. Who on earth would have tried to make us leap to that conclusion?
Oh. PETE'S LOVE CHILDS. I remember that from the other day; PETE'S LOVE CHILDS. You know, PETE'S LOVE CHILD...S. PETE, WHOSE LOVE IS CHILDS. PETE'S LOVE, CHILDS. PETE'S LOVE: CHILDS. PETE'S LOVE CHILDS. Pete's love Childs. PETE'S LOVE CHILDS. PETE'S LOVE CHILDS. Pete's love Childs. Pete's love, Childs. Pete's love: Childs. PETE'S LOVE CHILDS.
Still, good of the Star to set the record straight with this latest story. And I have no hesitation whatsoever in declaring myself apologetic about having ever doubted them. Indeed, the only thing that could possibly make me renege on this apology would be if the Star had put such a misleading headline on today's story, making you think that there was in fact a relationship between PETE and CHILDS, that it could most likely have led you to believe the complete opposite of what the story was. But I'm sure there's no chance of that.
Absolutely no chance, whatsoever. I probably won't even look to check. I know they won't have done that.
No, no chance. No sir! They'll have been straight down the line on this one. No messing. No misleading. No trying to make you think one thing and then telling you another. Nope. None of that.
Shall I just check?
OK, but it's a waste of my time really.
Still, I'll have a look.
Oh.
Still, who upon reading the headline MY RED-HOT NIGHTS WITH PETER ANDRE wouldn't have realised that the story was in fact
Amy, 20, insisted their break-up was nothing to do with her and that the snap of her and Peter, 38, in an Essex nightclub was “misleading”.
“There have been lots of stories linking me to Peter Andre since our nights out last week,” she said.
“We’re really good friends and were catching up..."
I wonder if there are any clues as to why this story ended up on the front page of the Star?
In her column for new! magazine, she wrote...

Read Amy and Peter’s columns in this week’s edition of new! magazine, out now.
Nope, the search goes on, I guess.

It puts me in mind of a Frasier quote. Daphne says:
“My uncle was a hack for one of those London tabloids. I can still remember his biggest scoop. The headline read, ‘High Ranking Tory caught wearing women’s clothing.’ Of course you turned to page two and you found out it was Margaret Thatcher, but by then you’d already bought the paper.”
