Happy New Year

So that's that, then. I'm off now for a while (only a couple of days in fact, but you know how it is) and then I'll be back.

I had meant to do a piece looking back at 2009, at all the awfulness I'd written about, and all the awfulness I'd written, but I didn't quite get there. I might do something like that in January if I have the time, but you can look back at this and this for a bit of reflection over the triumphs and atrocities of 2009.

As I was saying yesterday, this year has been one of quite amazing growth in traffic for the blog thanks in no small part to kind people retweeting and plugging things on Twitter, which I am proud of and a bit scared by - and I'll still keep doing it, for as long as it keeps me happy, and as long as some readers take some enjoyment from it. I'm also proud of the other blog I did in 2009, for as long as I felt it was necessary, and I'm pleased to say I don't think I need to write that one any more - but that was enjoyable, in its own way, and rewarding too.

So that was 2009. I hope the new year brings better things, but we'll see.

In the meantime, thanks for reading.

  1. The work you've done this year has been utterly indispensable. Your blog posts consistently hammer right to the core of the problem with newspapers, columnists and politics, and even though you manage to get your posts up so quickly after an event occurs, your writing is never anything less than thoughtful, researched and well-argued. How you pull it off I'll never know, but I'll bloody glad you do.

Keep on fighting them mate. While you're on the case with your analysis, they will never win.

All the best for the new year!

  2. Just wanted to say, great blog. (You read all their rantings & rubbish so I don't have to…)

    HNY.

  3. I only came across this blog about six weeks ago, and I now found myself looking forward to each new post like I used to look forward to the Russell Brand show on Radio 2, until the Daily Mail took that away from me!

It is a pleasure to read, a 'pleasure' to think about the issues you highlight, a refreshing change to be able to read what I have been thinking for years, albeit to myself in a constant worry whether I should talk to anybody about it. Thank you.

I have not bought a newspaper now for weeks (this sounds like some ridiculous drug addiction), considering I used to buy three a day to give myself what a believed to be a balanced view, what a load of horse-shit that theory was.

Happy new year, and let us all keep fighting against the enemies of reason.

  4. Great work, and good luck for a great next year!

  5. A great blog that has become a must read for me this year. Well done and please keep it up, for all our sakes.

    All the best

  6. Yeah I found your blog through twitter this year and its been a necessary antidote to all the right wing and irrational outpourings I have had the displeasure to read. Keep entertaining me and giving me hope in 2010,
    Keith

  7. Thank you for all the entertainment and laser-guided righteous fury that you have supplied in 2009.

Superb, SUPERB stuff – look forward to more in 2010.

  8. What Chris said. If I had to plough through the stuff you plough through there'd be nothing left after the explosion for the bile stains on the ceiling.
