Taking things literally
I was in the book shop the other day and I saw this:
Jon Gaunt is factually correct, of course. The country in which we live is indeed called Great Britain, and not Rubbish Britain. Moreover, I can't think of a single country in the world which has the word "Rubbish" in front of it - though one or two probably deserve it. But I couldn't help wondering if he was taking things just a smidgen too literally, and if he shouldn't perhaps start looking at things on a slightly smaller scale. For example, this person
has the name "Gaunt" as a surname, but doesn't look especially gaunt to me, if we're going to take things as literally as the author of the book mentioned above. Perhaps "Fat Bigoted Shithouse" would be a better surname...?
Just a suggestion, no pressure.

Would you mind awfully if I was a total pedant? This country is not call Great Britain, it is called, in full, "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland".
Great Britain is a geographical feature, that is the largest of the group of Islands that make up the range of Islands called the British Isles. Even if the UK completely broke up Great Britain would still exist in the same way that, say, the Bristol Channel or Ben Nevis would still exist.

I flicked through it, it's the usual 'political correctness has ruined this country' rubbish.
Felt a little embarrassed looking at it lest anyone think I agreed with 'Gaunty' so I adopted a disapproving scowl throughout.

From Matthew Norman…
I cannot recommend Gaunty's Best of British: It's called Great Britain, Not Rubbish Britain highly enough. Then again, any significant work of contemporary social history that includes Rolf Harris in its listing of the top ten living Brits pretty much recommends itself.

I think he intentionally mis-spells his name to avoid embarrassment. There should be a C where there is a GA

These idiots are all the same. Gaunt,Mackenzie is a cunt , Littlejohn is another tosser. I invite yoyu to search what Mackenzie the tosser said about the Leveson inquiry. This scumbag is beneath contempt. How he can ruin peoples lives by printing totally false information on purpose is beyond me. This cunt should be banged up in nick.
