The Mail, rape and the BBC

On the day the Tories decided to joust for a bit of populist state-bashing with a promise to freeze payments to the BBC, the Mail have jumped in on a story about Alan Pardew, who said on Match of the Day that a footballer had 'raped' another footballer with a well-timed tackle.

An appalling thing for Pardew to say, of course, and he has quite rightly apologised in full. Glad to see the Mail takes rape so seriously. I'm sure they'd complain if anyone at the BBC said this, for example:

...a rape victim who was drunk deserves less sympathy.

But of course they didn't complain about this. Because it was Peter Hitchens, in the Mail, who wrote it.

  1. The Mail have always had it in for the BBC seeing them as a bunch of communist bohemians stealing the good money of white Middle Class England. However, since the Brand / Ross fiasco they have been on high alert and are awaiting even the slightest trip up by a BBC employee so they can pounce on it, proclaim themselves to be the guardians of decency and yet again pursue their agenda for scrapping the license fee. I just wish more people could see through this obvious agenda and simply ignore the Mail like we have to ignore whimpering baby on a train carriage. Sure their existence is annoying but we can block it out.

    Keep up the good work.
