A new low – update
A quick update on yesterday's story about the brilliant journalism of Paula Murray - you'll see in the comments that MSP Elizabeth Smith has responded:
My comments were not made in the context of Dunblane. The journalist did not ask me anything about Dunblane nor did I comment on it or on any individual involved. It would be quite wrong for me to do so.
I have made comments recently to several newspapers about the issues related to young people using internet sites and the inappropriate use of that material. It is in relation to these views that I was approached and I can assure you there were no references to Dunblane.
What the Sunday Express chooses to print as the context is a matter for the relevant editor.
As with all politicians, you have to read between the lines a bit. What this seems to imply is that the journalist asked Smith for her opinions about some of the stuff that had been posted on these kids' networking pages - but didn't mention that these were survivors of Dunblane. Somehow she forgot to mention that, despite the fact that that was what the entire story was about.
That doesn't strike me as being tremendously honest.

I thought her comments were a bit too non-specific.
“What the Sunday Express chooses to print as the context is a matter for the relevant editor.”
Not when your comments are about no-one in particular and portrayed as about specific individuals.

Medical myths die hard dont hey! There are any number of reasons for being ‘over weight’, not being able to properly regulate insulin, thyroid issues, or as some current research suggests – have a high number of fat cells in comparison to the majority of the population.
To call someone ‘lazy’ for being
fat is quite frankly as mental and offensive as calling some ‘awkward’ for being black. Even if it was all just laziness and complusion (which it isnt) you wouldnt start laying into someone for being chronically addicted to drugs would you?
Is there any way to lodge an official complain about this sort of thing? A newspaper couldnt get away with racial prejudice these days, and to my mind its a fag paper away from being just that.
