I blame the parents myself

What kind of person could possibly think that calling someone a 'golliwog' is acceptable? What kind of parents could bring up such a vile creature? And what kind of contemptible fuckwit would think it was all right to call someone a 'golliwog' if you were just joking, like?

Oh. I see.

Some predictions:

1. Storm of 'oh so what, they'll be banning the word "nignog" next, the PC-gone-mad scum!' posts on complete idiots' blogs, and everywhere else.
2. Mail to cover story portraying perpetrator as victim, blaming evil BBC for murdering children and preventing loveable and fair freedom of speech from daughter of much-adored former premier.
3. 'When I grew up we had Little Black Sambo and there was nothing wrong with it, they even took the lovely golliwog off the jam jars, what's wrong with pictures of darkies with watermelons?' comments underneath.
4. Hilarious article by Littlejohn, who should of course be Prime Minister.

  1. Oh, Christ. The thing is, as all your predictions are 100% guaranteed to be realised, do you think we could just take them as read and not have to go through the joylessness of experiencing them?

At least I know what the next topic of conversation will be next time I’m talking to my dad.

  2. Have you seen the comments on the Mail site yet? Looks like you’re spot on so far:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1134663/BBC-set-drop-Carol-Thatcher-brands-tennis-player-golliwog-private.html

    Depressing stuff.

  3. “when our daughter was a baby we bought her a golliwog and it was always her favorite.
Perhaps if more children learned to love golliwogs, they would learn to love people of that colour.”

Jesus. Quote from “joseph lovatt” on the whole sorry state of affairs.. How patronising is that? So if we treat black people as children’s playthings everything would be ok? Gah! And that has been given the thumps up 162 times!

I think her attitude is redolent of a certain kindof smug, old school imperial attitude – that you can look down and mock anyone of a different nationality or background or ethnicity purely because they don’t fit into their contented middle class southern English view of life. Again, patronising! And then hiding behind the cop out “it was only a little jokey!”
