Things I never thought I’d say
I agree with Lily Allen:
"I know lots of people that take cocaine three nights a week and get up and go to work every day, no problem at all," the star told Metro.
"But we never hear that side of the story. I have no statement to make, I just wish people wouldn't sensationalise this thing that just exists.
"The only story is that drugs are bad and they will kill you - you will become a prostitute, a rapist or a dealer. But that's not true."
Exactly. No-one is allowed to have a sensible, considered view on drugs - that for some people, though not all, they're a recreational delight, not career-destroying or instant death. Although there is a danger of becoming a bit:
Luckily, the amount of heroin I use is harmless, I inject about once a month on a purely recreational basis. Fine. But what about other people less stable, less educated, less middle-class than me? Builders or blacks for example. If you're one of those, my advice is leave well alone. Good luck.
I imagine La Allen will get pilloried for trying to be a bit reasonable about things, by her stalker The Mail and others. Of course this doesn't change my view of the woman as a largely untalented pie-eyed waste of carbon, because she certainly is, but I just never thought I'd find myself agreeing with her on anything. Just goes to show, doesn't it?
