Indians!
Ready?
Yes, you read that strapline right:
Mandelson prepares to spend taxpayers' cash to rescue luxury car maker now owned by Indians
Indians. Not by an 'Indian firm', or 'in India'. But 'by Indians'.
Look, it's easy to say "wuurrrrgh, the Mail, they're a bunch of racist cunts", but then again on the other hand, if something looks like a turd and smells like a turd, do you really have to stick it in your mouth to confirm it is a turd? I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the word 'Indians' per se, if you're talking about people from India, since that's the right word to use, but Jaguar is owned by Tata, a global firm based in India but a PLC, meaning it's no more 'owned by Indians' than British Airways is 'owned by Britons'. It's an India-based company, sure. But 'owned by Indians'? I don't think it's oversensitive to spot a bit of froth on the lips of the Mail front page.
The implication? That the evil (gay, NuLab) Peter Mandelson is using taxpayers' money (money thieved from HARDWORKINGTAXPAYERS by dirty NuLab scumbags) to bail out a company of LUXURY (surprisingly class-war rhetoric from the far right's favourite paper) which is owned BY INDIANS. Not white people, you understand, you know nice Americans or this or that, but INDIANS! Grrrrrrrrrrr! But it's not quite that simple, is it? Even Ronald Reagan bailed out Chrysler, even George W Bush has agreed to bail out the motor firms, because they tend to employ a lot of human beings who are better off working and being in jobs and contributing to society in that sense than not working. Sure, it's kind of artificially propping up an industry, but then again it's saving hundreds of people from ending up on the scrapheap, so surely quite a fruitful use of taxpayer cash, no?
No, apparently not. Especially not when it's those bloody Indians!

You’ve got to admire the Mail’s craft though, that entire front page is a perfect example of pressing the right buttons to get its bigoted readers foaming at the mouth.
However they missed a trick by not headlining the Camilla pic as a spot the difference competition.
