I stand corrected
We're all gonna die!!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaargh!!!
The lower house of the US Congress has voted down a $700bn (£380bn) plan aimed at bailing out Wall Street.
The rescue plan, a result of tense talks between the government and lawmakers, was rejected by 228 to 205 votes in the House of Representatives.
Interestingly it's the Republicans who come out of this looking like the politicians who have listened to their voters, whereas the Dems are tainted by association with Bush. Is it an electioneering master stroke?

Tons of Dems voted against the bill as well, I believe it was 40% of the Democrats in the House who were against it. The Republicans, sadly, are trying to say that (Democrat) House Speaker Nancy Pelosi upset them which is why they voted no. The section “Recriminations on the Hill” on the NPR site tells more:

As usual, U.S. politics are a mess.
