‘Independent journalist’
I love this. What sort of person do you think counts as an 'independent journalist'? See if you can guess.
1. Someone who works for an agency or news organisation, from a newsgathering background, who has independent access to sources?
2. Someone who works for Fox News, who is embedded with the military, who used to work for the military, who spent his early career deceiving the American public by selling arms to Iran in order to fund murdering rebels in an attempt to topple a legitimate democratic government which happened not to be of the desired political stripe?
Yes, of course, it's 2. It's Colonel Oliver North, who is described as an 'independent journalist' by the US military when justifying why they didn't quite realise straight away that they'd accidentally blown up a few innocent people in Afghanistan.
For fuck's sake.
