Sub-standard strikes again
The Tory Troll has noticed this delightful apology from the sub-Standard.
In articles published on 23 and 26 May 2008, we gave the impression that Mr Gest had contracted a sexually transmitted infection and alleged he had Liza Minelli's dog killed without her knowledge.
This was wrong.
My favourite bit is the '23 and 26 May' part. They fucked up not just once but twice.
Any facts checked? Any stories corroborated? No. But you will see a pattern of Mail/Standard apologies like this - stories against celebrities, who are of course the most likely folk to sue for libel, which clearly haven't been checked thoroughly, and result in an apology. Sloppy? Hard to believe at such prestigious publications. Maybe 'risk-taking' would be a better word. We can't be sure if it's true or not, let's just run with it and hope the legal letter doesn't come...
but when it does, you get gems like this.
