The reactionary nutjobs who lurk in the BBC HYS messageboards must have had the evening off. These are the most popular comments on a 'marriage in church' question:
"Please, please, please don't start letting the politically correct tell the Church what to do. That will be the final nail in the coffin for this once Christian nation.
David Thomas, North Wales, United Kingdom "
But it's fine for 'the Church' to tell MP's how to vote on stem cell research and scupper the hope of cures to degenerative brain diseases?
"Only people who believe in god. Why do non-religious people have a right to marry in house of god? They don't. End of!!!"
How very Christian of you
And, on a story about rocketing food prices:
Surely this is what a free capitalist market craves? This is exactly what all right wing politicians have told us could never ever happen.
Supply & demand, supply & demand, supply & demand, everyone chant with me, supply & demand. Feeling a bit hungry and ripped off? Just keep chanting with me, supply & demand
and it will all be ok, greed will make everything ok
Oh I say, that's a peach.
However, there's also a question 'Do you love or hate your neighbour?' which has got the insects crawling out from under the stones:
Would love to talk to the neighbours more but I dont speak Polish, Urdu or Somali.
This man claims to come from Northampton. Yes, because Northampton really is the most cosmopolitan town in the whole world.
We are surrounded by immigrants, who selfishly believe they have the right to park to take up every parking space in the street.
It's as if they think they own the place, strutting around in their gangs, glaring at people.
We have tried to remonstrate with them about the parking, but they just continue, oblivious, or more than likely, deliberately ignorant to the resentment they are causing.
And they wonder why the English are close to breaking point.
One of my Neighbours (an old Jamacian guy) is really friendly and we get on really well with them. Unfortunately on the other side we've just got a family of hard-core Wahabists move in. He has blocked all the windows with black cloth but beats his wife in the back garden. If we speak to him he stares back hard without speaking.
As Nottingham is halfway up England and we like 50% of our neighbours maybe that proves the point of the article?
What the fuck? Oh well, I suppose it couldn't last forever. You have to take the good with the bad. Any opportunity to slag off immigrants and these numbskulls take it. But at least I can see some chinks of light in all the gloom.
