Renault respond…

Dear Mr Vowl

Thank you for your e-mail regarding our advertisement in the Express.

It is not Renaults' intention to have any advertisement placed in a publication beside material that may offend. It is not in any way meant to portray Renaults view on any issues politically and we do rate our global customers highly. I can assure you it was not our intention to offend anyone with our communications, which are designed to entertain and inform.

We hope this has not tarnished your view on Renault.

If you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact Renault Information Services on 0800 52 51 50.

Kind Regards

  1. Do you know if they’re planning to pull the ad, or were they just saying “just cos we give the express money doesn’t mean we agree with them”?

  2. It could be a bit of both, couldn’t it. My own view is that, while the Express isn’t doing anything legally wrong, it is making money from advertisers who may not be aware of the content of the site and may not wish their product to be next to opinions like this. Presumably when they advertise they get told the number of hits, unique users etc, but not what kind of things get discussed. It’s up to them to decide whether this is all right with them – we’ll see.
