In More Express awfulness the other day, I mentioned that paper's particularly repellent attack on Maxine Carr - a woman who has committed one crime in her entire life, to cover for her abusive boyfriend, but against whom, even by the police, there has never been a suggestion that she knew of his murder of two children - who has apparently become pregnant. What I didn't mention is Express readers' attitudes. It's not so much the soft underbelly of Little England as the great stinking beer gut. It's pretty strong meat, but it's worth remembering what the readership of 'The World's Greatest Newspaper' really is. Read and enjoy, if you can:
the bitch helped him clean up to hide the evidence. (she lives in xxxxxxxx at present)
Although I do not know what part of xxxxxxxx Myra, oh sorry, I mean Maxine is in, the local residents have already kicked up a stink about her. She should be sent to Thailand with all the other nonces. (not that I generalise)
This is from 'Zeigfried', an especially loathsome cunt whom I've mentioned before in dispatches, when he called people in Sudan 'heathens'. I've x'd out the place where he claims Carr lives, as I don't want to be responsible for repeating it; just my choice. The Express obviously couldn't care less.
Carr, incidentally, did not help Huntley clear up the 'evidence'. No-one has ever claimed that. There is NO evidence she did. But of course, it doesn't matter if 'Zeigfried' willingly and deliberately lies on a messageboard about Carr; not if you're the Express anyway. They think she's the 'most hated woman in Britain'; I wonder what could have contributed to that impression? All the lies told by newspapers like them?
She is just as bad and evil as Myra Hindley and if it was up to me she and Huntley would have been executed. - ricey59
Executed for protecting an abusive partner. You're a bundle of compassion, aren't you?
Maxine Carr lost her chance to be a mother when she shielded Huntley.
She can never be a "mother". - abuela
Lost the chance to be a mother for protecting an abusive partner. Yes, for being a victim, she deserves to be punished for the rest of her entire life.
MUST END RIGHT NOW!!!....She does not deserve to experience the joys of motherhood....SHE assisted that evil scum Huntley,She knew exactly what had happened to those two beautiful 10 year old girls...she is
EVIL!! That murdering B**** is living free and protected and I am paying for that!!! Utter discrace..... - claire
Doesn't deserve to be a mother. What? And no, again, once again, there's no evidence she did know - so why do you think she did? And she is NOT murdering. That is utterly false and disgraceful.
She should have been strung up along with Huntley. Although she did not kill the kids she was complicit in shielding Huntley in the knowledge of what he had done. - Col
No, that's bullshit as well. Where does this lie that she knew about the girls' murder come from? Who could have printed such utter shite? Hmm, let's have a look further up, in the story itself, from the pen of Chris 'Ill-gotten' Riches:
Her actions delayed his arrest for a fortnight, adding to the distress for Holly and Jessica’s families. She posed as somebody trying to help to find the girls – all the time knowing that he had already killed them.
Ah yes, it's in the story from Riches himself. I imagine on his passport it probably says 'journalist'. What is should say is 'bullshitting bastard'. No wonder these illiterate wankers have the impression she knew of Huntley's crimes... where did they get that impression from? A so-called 'journalist' who clearly did no research for this article or, if he did, ignored it. So either a liar on a completely incompetent shyster.
Which is it, Riches? Which are you?
I'm pleased to say that others have commented on these ignorant comments, from Riches and his chums, on the Express website. So it goes to show that not everyone on the internet is a small-minded little Englander with a pea-sized brain who hates anyone slightly foreign or different and would happily burn down a paediatrician's house if they were in an angry mob. No, I'm pleased to say that it's not just the stupidest voices that shout the loudest any more. It's been that way for a while, as the BBC's Have Your Say shows, but one of the reasons why I started this blog - and I think it goes for a lot of other left-leaning bloggers - is to attempt to redress the balance against ignorant reactionary bastards who misrepresent public opinion so badly online.
It is still, however, disturbing to see how people think that Carr shouldn't be allowed to have children. Some have called for her to be sterilised; that's just repugnant and deeply worrying. But it is what happens when you are lied to by journalists - no wonder these twats can't understand why Carr got only a few months in chokey when they've been led to believe she knowingly covered up for Huntley. And where did that false information come from? 'Journalists' who should be fucking ashamed of themselves.
I'll develop this theme of childbirth in a bit, when I come to look at the disgusting way in which East Europeans daring to reproduce has been covered over the past few days. But for now I need a lie down with a wet flannel over my face. You read too many Express comments, you start to feel sick.
