The Maddie hokey-cokey

Good news for the McCanns this week as their photofit of the Dave Hill/George Harrison suspect was ruled out of the investigation. One fewer suspect is a good thing, isn't it?

Er, no.

Portuguese police ruled him out of the abduction but the McCanns spokesman Clarence Mitchell said they did not believe the right man had been found and said the hunt for the man in the drawing continued.

That's a bit bizarre, isn't it? Mitchell, who's just a PR man with - as far as I'm aware - no detective experience whatsoever, is disagreeing with the entire Portuguese police force because their conclusions don't match what he wants to hear, or wants us to hear. Instead of seeing the good news in there being one fewer suspect, he is simply refusing to agree with the evidence, with no explanation of why. He would rather have the public believe there's someone out there who isn't out there than concentrate on the genuine leads revealed by detective work.

How very odd. I wonder why?
