John Redwood is a pig

They [Labour] decided to set date rape alongside stranger rape. Again, none of us want men to rape women, but there is a difference between a man using unreasonable force to assault a woman on the street, and a disagreement between two lovers over whether there was consent on one particular occasion when the two were spending an evening or night together. Labour’s doctrine of equivalence has led to jury scepticism about many rape claims, in situations where it is the man’s word against the woman’s and where they had agreed to spend the evening or night together. Young men do not want to have to take a consent form and a lawyer on a date, just as young women have every right to go on a date and to say “No”, having it respected.

"None of us want men to rape women"

Thanks for pointing that out, John.

"there is a difference between a man using unreasonable force to assault a woman on the street, and a disagreement between two lovers over whether there was consent on one particular occasion when the two were spending an evening or night together."

Hang on a minute. "A man using unreasonable force". Does that not suggest there is reasonable force? Surely any force to assault a woman is unreasonable? Isn't it John?

"A disagreement between two lovers over whether there was consent" - what? So man attacks complete stranger = rape. Man attacks his own girlfriend = a disagreement over consent. This kind of attitude is just a rapist's charter. This is the attitude that says: only a brutal attack by a stranger is rape. If the two people know each other, is it really rape?

"Labour’s doctrine of equivalence has led to jury scepticism about many rape claims, in situations where it is the man’s word against the woman’s and where they had agreed to spend the evening or night together."

No. People like you, John, are the reason why there is scepticism about many rape claims. It's people like you in juries who think 'she probably asked for it' or 'how can you tell if they were going to have sex OUT OF WEDLOCK WHICH IS IMMORAL AND WRONG AND WILL BE PUNISHED BY THE FIRES OF HELL anyway?' Well, she agreed to spend an evening with him, he can pretty much do what he wants to her, can't he? She's only got herself to blame, hasn't she? Eh?

John Redwood is a pig.

And when even the Hate Mail mentions the story - and to be fair to those at Rothermere Towers, whichever poor bastard hack wrote this story actually got some quotes against a totally reactionary point of view - the comments, for once, don't back up the pig.

Just as I was beginning to be disillusioned with Labour, here is another sharp reminder why I should never vote Conservative!

- Nicky, Reading, Berkshire

Would he still say that if it was his daughter date raped. Stupid man.

- Expat, France

I doubt that any victim of a date rape would agree with Mr. Redwood. Does he have a mother, wife, sister or daughter? Rape is a crime of pain and control and whether exercised by a stranger or a known person, it has the same devastating results.

- Giovanna, Rome, Italy

That is such an insult to all the women, who went out with a friend, for a quiet drink, and found themselves in strange surroundings, with a total stranger! What a total idiot this man is. His comment makes me very angry.

- Yvonne, E.Sussex

Are politicians nowadays criminals. He should be punished for giving such a statement.

This is disgusting, did this man loose his mind?

- Bilge, London

I particularly like

What a total prat! Well done Redwood you have now got Gordon McBrown off the hook and sentenced everyone to a new Dark Age under this Marxist monster! I hope David Cameron removes the party whip from you.

- Roger Kingston, York

Double points for a 'McBrown' there.
